Common Applications of Plastic Cord Locks

Plastic cord locks tighten cords without the use of a knot. Also known as cord fasteners, plastic stoppers, or cord toggles, the locks are attached to strings, cables, or cords. They are versatile and can be used with anything from clothing to industrial items.

How the Locks Work

The lock consists of a barrel, a toggle, and a spring. By squeezing the toggle, you release the tension and the cord moves freely within the locks. When you release the toggle, you engage the tension and the cords are held in place within the lock. After releasing the tension, slip the cord through the traverse hole and reapply the tension, and the cords are secure.

Application of the Locks

Here are 10 common applications of a plastic cord lock:

  1. Fasten clothing and camping equipment. Cord locks were originally developed for mountaineers to fasten clothing and camping equipment while wearing gloves.
  2. Use with drawstrings on garments, such as hooded jackets, hooded sweatshirts, windbreakers, and jogging pants. You can adjust your hood to keep dry in rain or warm in cold weather.
  3. Secure school backpacks. Remove your books and supplies quickly.
  4. Use with drapery and window blind and shade cords. Keep your cords out of the reach of children and pets.
  5. Use with drawstrings with laundry bags and duffel bags. Don't worry about items falling out of your bag.
  6. Use with elasticated cords such as elastic cords or elastic ropes. The locks handle the bounce of the device.
  7. Fasten shoes secured with elastic laces. Don't worry about your shoes or boots coming untied and risk tripping on your laces.
  8. Create a zipper pull. Zip your jacket while wearing gloves on a cold night at a football game.
  9. Create a lanyard. Carry items around your neck or your wrist so you don't have to carry a bag or fill your pockets.
  10. Attach a loop to an object. Carry a flashlight or knife around your belt.

Versatile Locks

The locks come in a variety of styles—a dual-opening lock, a wheel lock, a box cord lock, and more. Locks come in different sizes and colors. Fasten, adjust, and loosen items with ease. You don't have to waste time tying and untying knots.
