Questions About Elasticity and Strength of Nylon Webbing
When working on a webbing project that
requires strength and elasticity, you’ll find yourself with questions. Let us
help you answer them.
How do I determine the strength
of the strap I’m using? We measure
the overall strength of a strap by its weakest point. Every strap will
have a breaking point where the buckle or webbing will fail under a load.
We also measure the workload, which is the maximum load where we take into
account other factors such as tingling, drop, or impact. We recommend that
thirty-three percent of the breaking strength should be used as the
workload.
What length of elastic webbing
should I buy? Most elastic webbing, from flat nylon webbing to polyester webbing, is sold by the foot. The larger the
quantity you purchase, the higher the discount you will usually
receive.
What is a belt? To create a belt, a combination of hardware and
webbing is stitched together. A belt can feature many different
combinations depending on your wants and needs.
How can I ensure the safety of
the elastic webbing? It’s
important to inspect your material at least once a year for any signs of
wear and tear. Doing this is particularly important when dealing with
harnesses and belts that can create dangerous conditions if not properly
maintained. Items that are regularly used, such as chair seats and seat
belts, should be replaced every two to five years.
How do I maintain the webbing? Proper maintenance is a great way to ensure the
longevity of your webbing. Make sure the material remains clean and dry.
If you do need to wash it, use a mild detergent.
